The process started several years ago; however, 2009 became the year of greatest change for Claude M. Anderson Electric Co., Inc. in MN and Northern Electricians, Inc. in WI because we changed our look, our brand and joined together as NEI Electric. By combining our resources and areas of expertise, NEI Electric has more than 100 years of experience delivering quality electrical services to a diverse and unique list of clients. Our original business philosophy has remained, simply.....provide quality electrical installations at competitive prices and make it easy for customers to use our services.
The decision to change our company name was not made lightly nor was it an easy process especially from the west side of the St. Croix River.
Claude M. Anderson Electric Co., Inc. had been somewhat of a fixture on the east side of Saint Paul, since it was founded as Mounds Park Electric by Claude & Jeanette Anderson when Claude returned from World War II. The small company became a 1952 charter member of the St. Paul Chapter of National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). As the post-war economy grew, so did the electrical work opportunities in Saint Paul. Eventually, Claude invited two partners, Paul Ethier and Larry Ohman, to join him and they moved the business to a building on East Seventh Street. Claude retired out of the business in the late 1960's and even through several changes of ownership over the years, the company name remained. The long company name was frequently shortened by customers and vendors to Claude Anderson, Anderson Electric, CMA Electric, or even just plain Claude...changing the company name was a huge step but the concept had been simmering on the backburner for many years.
Northern Electricians, Inc. was founded by Donald Eibs and Marv Roberts in 1961. Bob Rawlings became a partner in 1975 and the company assumed business clients and employees of Sherman Electric and Halvorson Electric in the 1990's. They became known as NEI Northern Electricians, serving western Wisconsin from St. Croix Falls and Eau Claire offices.
In 2004, Claude M. Anderson Electric Co., Inc. purchased the controlling interest in NEI Northern Electricians; however the two companies kept separate identities. A few years ago, the current partners began working on a business development plan and part of that plan resulted in the changing of our brand and combining of the two companies under one name, NEI Electric. The name change was fairly easy for the WI offices; it was more difficult to change the MN office from Claude M. Anderson Electric Co., Inc. to NEI Electric. At first there were questions and confusion (who? what? why?); now our customers and business associates have adapted to our new name and we receive compliments on our new updated look.
Each company retains their original corporate name, d/b/a NEI Electric, adding the location for clarity. The offices operate independently for electrical estimating and project management and share specific project type expertise from each location when needed. Management of all the operations, from project management and safety to accounting, is accomplished by use of network systems and video conferencing, eliminating travel and creating an atmosphere of team-work between the three offices.
